April is National Poetry Month! There are so many ways to celebrate! Here’s a list of 30 things you can do—one activity for each day in April!

  1. Listen to the Poetry Podcast with C. Patrice Ares-Christian!
  2. Post a poem using the hashtag #NationalPoetryMonth
  3. Read the most-read contemporary poem—“Kindness” by Naomi Shihab Nye
  4. Read some of your favorite poetry, or read something new
  5. Contact me about attending one of my poetry workshops!
  6. Sign up for a Poem-a-Day, and read a different poem each day in April
  7. Share a poem with a loved one or a bestie
  8. Encourage your children (grades 5-12) to participate in the Dear Poet project
  9. Check out a classic book of poetry from your local library—Where the Sidewalk Ends, anyone?
  10. Begin your meetings, classes, or gatherings with a poem
  11. Complete one of the poetry challenges from an episode of The Poetry Podcast with C. Patrice Ares-Christian
  12. Read about your state’s poet laureate
  13. Start and end your day with a poem
  14. Follow a poet on Instagram
  15. Buy a book of poetry from your local used bookstore
  16. Make a list of your favorite poems and share it online
  17. Write or paint your favorite lines of poetry onto stones to decorate your garden
  18. Give a book of poetry to a coworker or a neighbor
  19. Learn about the life of a famous classic poet
  20. Organize a poetry slam or an open mic night in your neighborhood
